CFM – Mozambique Ports & Railways has signed a Service Level Agreement with its Zimbabwe counterpart NRZ and Zimbabwe’s mining company ZIMASCO, to transport large volumes of chromium ore and ingots to the ports of Beira and Maputo for export, via the Machipanda and Limpopo rail lines, respectively.
Initiated on 1 November, the Agreement is valid until December 2018 and provides for the rail transport of about 1 million tonnes of these bulk exports at the rate of 70,000 tonnes per month. Both CFM and NRZ are mobilising their locomotive and wagon fleets to service the business most effectively.
The Agreement means that traffic on the Limpopo line is forecast to reach approximately 1 million tons in 2018, a record-breaking volume.
